CAYS Travel Soccer

COVID-19 REOPENING PLAN FOR YOUTH SOCCER
FALL 2020 TRAVEL SOCCER REGISTRATION ENDS JUNE 30, 2020.

Travel soccer is for kids ages 7-15, and is designed to foster a higher quality of soccer play for those players (and parents) willing to commit to a more dedicated practice schedule, intense training sessions and a higher level a competition. Practices are held twice a week. Half of the teams’ games are played in Carlisle and the other half away.

The fundraiser is REQUIRED for all participants and the fee will be collected at the time of registration. This fee can be refunded upon completion of the fundraiser. Additional fees (i.e. uniforms, team training, tournament fees) also could be required.

Q: Under which age group does my child fall?

The age groups are determined by your child’s birth year. For the 2020/21 soccer year the groups are as follows:

  • U9 – born in 2012
  • U10 – born in 2011
  • U11 – born in 2010
  • U12 – born in 2009
  • U13 – born in 2008
  • U14 – born in 2007
  • U15 – born in 2006

Q: Is there a tryout?

Yes, all players are required to try out before being considered for placement on a travel team.

Q: How does the team selection process work?

Following the tryouts, the CAYS Executive Committee and current coaches of the team meet to finalize the roster for each team. The following criteria are used for team selection:

  • tryout scores
  • coach input
  • past season performance
  • attitude
  • work ethic
  • sportsmanship

If a child makes the team for the fall season, he/she is given primary consideration for a roster spot in the spring season also.

Q: What happens if my child is not selected for a travel team?

If your child is not selected for a travel team they can be transferred to our rec program if they are within the age range for the program and have the difference in registration rates refunded to you. You may also choose to have your registration refunded to you. Refund is the only option for any child that is too old for our rec program. If you withdraw from travel soccer prior to being notified, your refund is reduced by 25%. There are NO refunds once teams have been established.

Q: What are the date for each season?

Fall Season

Practices begin as early as mid-July depending on the team/coach. Games run from September through beginning of November; skipping Labor Day (depending on when it falls) and Columbus Day weekends. Many tournaments are available both weekends.

Spring Season

Practices begin in mid-March, Games run from April through beginning of June;
skipping Easter (depending on when it falls) and Memorial Day weekends. Many tournaments are available Memorial Day weekend.

Q: How many games does each team play?

The CPYSL season consists of 8 games (normally 4 home, 4 away). Teams also may choose to participate in tournaments in addition to the league games.

Q: Where can I find out more information about the travel league?

Q: When are practices and games?

Practices are held twice a week between Monday-Thursday and the hours of 5:30-8pm for about 1½ hours. Make-up practices are scheduled as needed. The game schedule, once posted by the league, can be found here. This is available in public view mode.

Q: Where are practices and HOME games held?

All practices and HOME games are held at the George B. Stuart Athletic Fields, located at 1213 Rockledge Drive, Carlisle, PA 17015.

Q: How far do travel teams travel for AWAY games?

The average travel time is 30-45 minutes; however some games may be up to an hour or more.

Q: What equipment is required to participate?

Shin guards are mandatory for all practices and games. Your child should bring a soccer ball to practice (see below for correct size). Soccer cleats are strongly recommended over sneakers
(baseball cleats are NOT allowed). Players are encouraged to bring a water bottle to practices and games. A uniform (additional purchase) is needed for games.

Q: What size soccer ball does my child need?

  • U9-U12 – Size 4
  • U13 & Up – Size 5

Q: What does the registration fee include?

The registration fee includes player, team, club and insurance fees paid to CPYSL and EPYSA, administration fees, fundraiser fee, referee fees, equipment, and field maintenance/upkeep/lining fees.

Q: What is the fundraiser fee?

The fundraiser fee is now collected at registration for all participants. The fee amounts remain the same as they have in the past: $30 for the first child, $15 for the second child, and $0 for any others.

Q: Can I get my fundraising fee back?

Yes, you can. If you complete the minimum requirement for selling sandwiches your fundraiser fee will be refunded to you.

Q: Are there any other fees I will be required to pay beyond the registration fee?

Yes, you will be required to purchase a uniform and pay for any tournaments or team training/activities your team decides to participate in.
