Y Talk: Hello Sunshine by Bipp and Calee Rose

Side note: After one day of “lessons” with our 5-year-old, I just want to say: Teachers, all of you are amazing and I can’t thank you enough for providing such a service to our kiddos!

The birds are chirping, and the sun is shining, let’s try to incorporate 30 minutes of outside play today. That couple minutes could involve sidewalk chalk, hopscotch, bubbles or even hide and seek.

I was sent a cool sidewalk paint recipe. You could try this.

I do realize that when doing any of these activities the key is to engage and be present and grateful for this time with your family. If you’re not enjoying it, the moment won’t last very long. It should be dedicated time and something the whole family finds fun and interesting.

If it gets to cold outside bring the party inside. You can use painter’s tape and put hopscotch on your carpet.

Use old yarn and make a maze, limbo or obstacle course. Floor puzzles are fun, or even hiding the puzzle pieces (hoping you remember where they are) for the kids to bring back and put together.

Today we are planting seeds using an egg carton and soil and then talking about sun, soil and hopefully we will get to watch the plants start to grow. (Sometimes my black thumb does win, so we might be doing this again in a couple weeks.) The nice thing about egg cartons is that they are biodegradable and no transplant is needed. Just put the growing plant straight in dirt when it’s ready.
