Y Talk: St. Patty’s Day Scavenger Hunt by Brittany Rose

In lieu of St. Patrick’s Day activities your kids might have been doing at school, here is something fun to do with them at home. It is a “pot of gold hunt.” There’s no right or wrong way to go about this. The end result is to have fun and get the family moving and enjoying in some laughs together.

This can be done two ways:

First, if the weather stays clear today, put a map in your mailbox for the kids to get the mail and see there’s buried treasure to be found. Ideas of treasure can be those old bead necklaces, pennies, pennies painted yellow or gold spray objects or chocolate gold coins. The map can incorporate both inside and outside places, and then a spot for your buried treasure.

If you do a map outside, you can have them do an activity (thing cross word, word search, math problem etc.) to slow down the process and keep the “hunt” lasting a little longer. Pinterest or Google has you covered if you want to get super festive ideas.

Second, if you need to stay inside, set up a scavenger hunt. Give them 20 minutes of quiet time for you to be able to set up. Pinterest already has places for clues or you can come up with your own silly family spots.

Last year when we did this for our daughter, each clue had an exercise to do first. This can be super simple – 5 sit-ups, 5 jumping jacks, 5 toe touches. Again, the idea is to do something fun to get everyone moving. If you run out of time today, you can always just make this a fun Wednesday tradition – we all know sometimes we need a little pick-me-up half way through the week.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day, and Happy Hunting!
