Wellness Center Manager
The Wellness Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing the YMCA’s health and wellness operations, including fitness center management, personal training programs, wellness events, community engagement initiatives, digital wellness content and member experience. This position ensures the successful delivery of wellness programs, maintains fitness equipment and facilities, supervises wellness staff and trainers, and promotes YMCA health and wellness offerings through community outreach and digital engagement. The Wellness Manager reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Vice President of Marketing & Community Engagement.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Wellness Center Operations
- Manage the daily operations of the Wellness Center to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment.
- Maintain a visible presence on the wellness floor to support members and staff.
- Monitor equipment use and ensure accessories such as jump ropes, resistance bands, and other fitness supplies are available and in good condition.
- Coordinate preventative maintenance schedules for fitness equipment.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate repairs with vendors as needed.
- Track equipment life cycles and develop replacement and capital improvement plans.
Personal Training & Wellness Programs
- Oversee all personal training services, wellness coaching, and member support programs.
- Recruit, onboard, train, and evaluate personal trainers and wellness staff.
- Ensure trainers embrace the YMCA mission and values while delivering high-quality member experiences.
- Manage trainer schedules and EGYM.
- Maintain accurate employee records and documentation through YMCA systems, including in CORE.
- Monitor class participation and member feedback.
Community Engagement & Special Events
- Plan, coordinate, and participate in community wellness initiatives and special events, including:
- Family Fun & Fitness (FFF)
- Healthy Kids Day (HKD)
- Health Fairs
- Lunch & Learn Programs
- Foster relationships with community partners and organizations to expand wellness outreach.
- Manage YMCA360 wellness challenges and member engagement initiatives.
- Coordinate racquetball schedules and related wellness activities.
- Serve as backup for Welcome Center opening and closing duties.
- Oversee the Group Fitness Coordinator.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in health and wellness, fitness management or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of one (1) year of supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
- Knowledge of fitness center operations, personal training programs and group exercise programming.
- Strong organizational, communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, events, and deadlines simultaneously.
- Familiarity with wellness technology platforms such as EGYM and YMCA360 preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard business software.

EDUCATION
- Associate’s degree in Exercise Science, Health Promotion, Business Administration, or a related field; or equivalent work experience.
- Preferred – Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science, Health Promotion, Business Administration, or a related field.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the facility.
- Ability to demonstrate fitness equipment and exercise techniques safely.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and move throughout wellness and program areas.
- Ability to set up and break down event equipment and wellness program materials.
- Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, and special events as required.
- Ability to respond appropriately during medical, facility, or emergency situations.
Pay: $39,000 – $42,000 per year
