Y News: Member Survey Recap
You spoke and we listened! Thank you to everyone who took the time to complete our member survey near the end of the summer. It was great to read the many positive comments about the new facility and to hear your input on ways we can continue to serve you.
As often is the case, policy and facility changes are welcomed by some while others prefer something different. Take reservations for lap swimming as an example. Some people are so glad we no longer require reservations for lap swimming, while others would love to see us bring that back. We recognize that on topics like that, there really is no correct answer and we might not be able to please everyone.
We are pleased to see that several issues raised in the survey already have been addressed or we currently are working to improve or address. You can read more about that below.
You also will see some statistics – most of which were not surprising for us. We know a large portion of our members join the Y for the pool, yet we couldn’t address the pool in our most recent construction project. If you read below, you will see some ways we hope to remedy that soon.
Thank you again for giving us a few moments of your time to help improve our Y community for everyone!

FEEDBACK
1. We need a place for our kids to go while we work out and/or attend classes.
The Kids Adventure Zone recently opened to give kids a place for interactive play. If you haven’t checked it out yet, it is located directly across from the Welcome Center. Check it out!
2. The pool did not get renovated during the recent construction project.
While we did update some of the infrastructure in the pool area, you are correct that no cosmetic improvements were made. We recently announced that we are in the very early stages of Phase 3, which includes replacing the pool shell, replacing the original pool deck with slip resistant impermeable tile specially designed for aquatic environments, adding an on-deck shower system and improved drainage, and replacing the aging pool boilers and HVAC system. The project also includes the addition of a warm water pool.
3. The floors in the Women’s Locker Room are not safe.
We recently closed the Women’s Locker Room for repairs to the epoxy flooring in the shower area to address these problems.
4. Very little time available for playing basketball in the winter when Rec Basketball is happening.
The addition of the Multipurpose Room has allowed us to move our younger Rec Basketball practices and games into this space. Having this option now will free up the Basketball Gymnasium earlier on weeknights and Saturdays.
5. Bring back the boxing room.
We have been overwhelmed by the response to the new Rocky Room that opened at the end of the summer. If you haven’t tried it yet, it’s located on the second floor across from Studio C.
6. The acoustics and speakers in the new studios are not very good.
You are correct! If you take classes, you may have noticed the installation of some of the new sound system equipment in the studios in the past few weeks. This is one of the final pieces of the original project that we still are waiting to finalize. We’re getting close. Hopefully the installation will be completed soon so we can train our staff and start using the new systems for classes.
7. Get more trainers in the Wellness Center and Functional Fitness Center.
We are happy to announce that we have several new trainers currently going through the onboarding process. We are excited about some new opportunities that will be available for members once they finish the onboarding and training process!
8. Highlight some of your amazing employees!
Beginning in January 2023, we will highlight one employee per month. We will feature employees from all our departments throughout the year. We will post the video interviews with the staff members on our social media channels, website and the TVs in the hallways of the Y so you can get to know some of the amazing people who work here!
